Vicki Fox comic #728 by Brian Reynolds

Mike Russell was one of the first people to express interest in my work after I started sharing my artwork publicly on the internet in early 1996 and over the years I've done a number of art projects for him featuring his signature character, Vicki Fox. This is the most recent effort which is for the continuing comic book adventures that Vicki and company are involved with. This is also one of my first attempts to utilize the Open Canvas software for drawing the whole comic digitally. I normally draw with pencil and paper but Open Canvas has allowed me to be a bit more flexible and polished in my roughs and as a result this comic came together a bit better looking and faster than it might have if I'd followed my older techniques.

Buffalo Wings Book 2 sample by Brian Reynolds

Long ago when I was in college a friend of mine introduced me to John Nunnemacher's "Buffalo Wings" stories and I was intrigued. Here was a comic that was fun to look at, had a story that kept my attention, and was drawn like I wanted to draw. I thought it was great and eventually tracked down more and more of the stories till I had them all. Later I'd get to know John personally and had a great time hearing his thoughts on comics, drawing, and storytelling. He's always got lots of activities to deal with which keep him from doing more comic work but I hold out hope to see more from him in time. In more recent years he finally did get a continuation of the Buffalo Wings storyline going with help from some other artist friends which I'm happy to say I was one. One of the ladies in the office asked me if I could come up with a tattoo design for her of a dragon and this was my first pass. I like the drawing a lot but it was a bit too snarly for her tastes.

Why for?!?! by Brian Reynolds

This is a frame from an animation I did years ago on a game called "Kid Keys", a typing tutor for children. When players wanted to exit the game a confirmation dialog would appear along with this dragon who would smile or look sad depending on their choice. Awhile later I took one of the frames out and modified the image to create this picture and dumped it into my online directory so that anyone who went fishing in my personal storage area might eventually come across it and perhaps take pity. Heh. ;)

This is a contribution piece for the 2008 Megaplex convention art portfolio. The theme for the convention was comicbook superheros which typically take themselves somewhat seriously. I was compelled to do something less-than-serious however. :)

No prizes for guessing the reference here, although the real challenge was in getting enough clues into the picture to make the reference discernable in the first place. Tried out a bunch of different photoshop things here that I don't normally employ so that I could get all the glows, sheens, highlights, and shadows.

Longtime fan of Eric Schwartz here and this was something I drew for Eric a couple of conventions ago. Personally I prefer Amy back when she was an animated character running around on unicycles and stapling AT-ATs to the street, but I get a kick out of all versions of her.

A neat character design and learning experience concerning the aspects of translating a drawing into a three dimensional costume construction.
